ABUSE MUST BE STOPPED, KAMBWILI BACKS WYNTER’S THREAT AGAINST IMENDA

By Staff Reporter

Chishimba Kambwili says he will certainly support Economic Front (EF) leader Wynter Kabimba’s decision to sue ruling UPND secretary general Batuke Imenda for using a ZAF helicopter to transport him to Northern Province.

In a letter to Imenda and copied to Zambia Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Colin Barry, Kabimba gave the UPND secretary general a 7-day ultimatum to provide proof of payment for using the ZAF chopper.

But Gen Barry said Imenda happened to be one of the passengers in the advance party on the ZAF helicopter that he said had already been paid for by the government.

He also said that despite the government paying for the air assets “l cannot give you a receipt because what happens is when such a movement occurs we are free to use our own resources and then get a payment from the government when the funds are ready.”

But Kabimba said he was pleased that the General confirmed that “the guy was in a ZAF chopper. So it’s a statement of fact.”

Commenting on the same, Kambwili said abuse must be stopped.

Asked if he supported Kabimba’s move to seek legal redress, Kambwili responded in the affirmative.

“Certainly. I mean those abuses and excesses must be stopped. (They) somehow must be stopped. Somehow must be stopped. Those abuses must be stopped and excesses must be stopped,” Kambwili said.

He said Kabimba has his own rights as a citizen to take the action that he wants to take, saying he does not subscribe to abuses.

And asked on the calls by some in his own PF party that former president Edgar Lungu should come back and lead it, Kambwili said he does not want to comment on the matter .

“You see, the problem that we have in Zambia is that everybody has a right to say whatever they want to say. But what is important is to look at the bigger picture. What is the bigger picture?” Kambwili asked. “What are the consequences of what you want to do? What are the advantages of what we are calling for? Before anybody decides to make pronouncements they must evaluate some of these things. But for me to say they are right, they are wrong, no I don’t want to go to that extent because everybody has got an opinion.”

But asked if he was ready to support Lungu’s come back himself, Kambwili laughed before saying that he had no comment.

“I don’t want to be misunderstood. I have no comment on that. If I want to advise my brother president Lungu, I know his home and will drive to his home and have a one on one discussion other than airing my views in the press,” said Kambwili.
