By Isaac Zulu Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri says he spoke earlier than President Hakainde Hichilema when asked on his decision to lift the immunity of former KCM liquidator Milingo Lungu which came barely 48 hours after the President said that the DPP will soon take action on the issue of Konkola Copper Mines.
Asked if the statement by the President to the effect that the DPP’s office would soon act on KCM and his subsequent decision to lift the immunity of former KCM liquidator Milingo Lungu was by design or coincidence, considering that his office enjoys some tenure of office and is supposed to operate independently without any influence from the appointing authority, Phiri said that the first statement he made has highlighted which one came first.
