Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba has laughed off PF presidential aspirant Chishimba Kambwili’s claim that the UPND administration planned to kill him through the police by planting a snake in the Balmoral police cell where he was detained, saying police will issue a comprehensive statement on the matter including pictures of the purported snake “they are saying is a cobra.”
Kambwili said upon being released from police detention after he was charged with unlawful assembly that the UPND government and the Zambia Police wanted to take his life and that is why they decided to put a snake in the cells where he was being held.
But speaking with Daily Revelation, Kajoba laughed off those assertions saying that the Zambia Police Public Relations Unit will issue a comprehensive statement today to clarify the matter.
“Hahaha. Yah…! I cannot comment on that issue. The PR department will issue a comprehensive statement just today to clarify the whole issue. I think the PR department will even be in a position to give you the pictures of that snake, they are saying it is a cobra,” said Kajoba.
And when contacted, Zambia Police deputy public relations officer Danny Mwale said that Kambwili is blowing “the whole story of the snake in police cells, saying at the time the snake was being killed and being swept that was the time Kambwili was being brought in.”
“Imwe banthu. Our police station where Chishimba Kambwili was detained ni kuma farm. The area is not well developed and as police we have been experiencing snakes sneaking in police cells at that particular police station. I don’t know how many times I am going to explain this. When that snake was killed Kambwili was not in police cells, there were other suspects. At the time he was being brought, that was the time the suspects he found there were sweeping that small snake out of the cells,” said Mwale. “Can a snake just be waiting for Kambwili? Chishimba Kambwili has blown the whole story of the snake in police cells out of proportion. And it is not a cobra; as being claimed. It was a small snake. Even in politics, people need to be sincere and not be economic with the truth. Ba Kambwili just wants to be giving us unnecessary work.”
