A vote must be used wisely!

We are pretty sure that by now, a huge percentage of our electorate have made up their minds in terms of who they are going to vote for in the next two weeks.

There is still a chance of some undecided voters which political players might still be able to swing one way or the other, but that is still a smaller percentage compared with those who have already decided.

Some have made their choices based on the promises they have heard the contestants make. For some, the decision has been made because they feel the country needs to change government, that even if the UPND were given more time in government, they would not be able to address the pressing needs facing the country right now. For others, they have made a choice because they feel the country is on the right track with the programmes the UPND administration has introduced, and that that developmental agenda would be destabilised if the UPND were voted out of office. They are uncertain about any other team that might come into office besides the UPND to take that developmental agenda forward.

Still, others have made their decisions simply because of their party affiliations. For these, loyalty to the party is paramount, beyond anything else. They have invested so much into their parties that they feel their interests would be compromised if another party came into office, or if they kept another party in office. There are also those who simply want to remain in power because of the deals they have been enjoying. Some want their parties to get into office solely because of what they can individually benefit in terms of the benefits which come with the incumbent party. They are not even interested about their parties promises to the public, or what those parties seek to advance in terms of public good if they were elected into office or managed to remain in office.

Then there is the most dangerous group to the country’s unity and well-being. With this group the tribe of the candidate standing is supreme. This group has no interest whatsoever in what the contestants are promising. It doesn’t even matter whether the party they are supporting is able to steer the national development cause if kept in power, or if elected into office. For them the tribe and ethnicity of the person standing is primary, and they are willing to go to any length to defend their vile beliefs. Such sick people indeed!
