The Anti-Corruption Commission has recognised and awarded Daily Revelation Newspaper editor-in-chief Patson Chilemba for his outstanding contribution to the fight against corruption in Anti-Corruption reporting.
And Chilemba has encouraged institutions mandated to fight corruption and other agencies to help make the work of journalists easier with prompt responses and information on the work journalists do.
He along with four other journalists have been awarded by the ACC for outstanding contribution to the fight against corruption in the anti Corruption reporting.
Chilemba has been awarded in the category of online newspaper, the work that has been closely followed and monitored by the commission for the past three years, majority of the time when Daily Revelation was still an online media before adding the print product two months ago.
Others awarded are Angela Muchinshi from News Diggers, Darius Chonya of Diamond TV, Chileshe Mwango of Radio Phoenix and Hannock Kasama of ZNBC.
The awards were presented to Chilemba and the others at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre by Home Affairs minister Jack Mwiimbu, who represented President Hakainde Hichilema, along with other ministers and senior government officials during the commemoration of the 2023 International Anti-Corruption day.
Apart from senior government officials present, there was also the presence of members of the diplomatic corp, among several hundreds of Zambians who commemorated the day, which started with a match-past from Northmead to Mulungushi Conference Centre.
In acknowledging the award, Chilemba said when doing the work, journalists don’t seek awards but when awards come, they are treasured as they are an affirmation of the good work done.
“First of all, let me acknowledge with gratitude the recognition extended towards us with this award. When doing the work we do we seek no awards as country and society always comes first. But when such awards come, we treasure them as they are an affirmation of the work we do,” said Chilemba.
“Such awards give us the confidence that we are doing something noble. We are encouraged then to continue and even work harder towards what we do.”
