ACC welcomes move to conclude graft cases within 5 months

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) seized properties to the value of K756,452,853 and forfeited 19 motor vehicles to the State in 2023, says commission head of corporate Communication Timothy Moono.

Speaking during the end of year media briefing, Moono said the properties were seized during the course of investigations.

“The estimated value of assets or properties seized in the course of investigations stood at K756, 452,853. By close of the year a total of 19 vehicles were forfeited to the state,” Moono said.

He further said the Commission secured 17 convictions, with five acquittals in 2023.

“The Commission closed a total of 183 investigation cases and 38 arrests in 2023. The commission also recorded 17 convictions and five acquittals in 2017,” Moono said.

Moono appealed for support from  members of the public in the corruption fight, because fighting corruption required concerted efforts.

“While the commission is resolved to tackle the corruption scourge, this task requires concerted efforts from the members of the public,” he said.

Moono said ACC was delighted with the recent pronouncement by President Hakainde Hichilema on legal reforms which will see corruption and financial crimes concluded within five months.

“The Commission is excited with recent pronouncements made by the President of the Republic of Zambia on legal reforms that will see the conclusion of court cases on corruption and financial crimes within five months,” Moono stated.
