AIPAC demands probe into K14 million corruption over Mwinilunga water project

Acton Institute for Policy Analysis Centre (AIPAC) has demanded a comprehensive investigation into Mwinilunga Water Project irregularities amidst suspicions of potential corruption involving approximately K14 million.

And Centre executive director, Solomon Ngoma has called for the immediate suspension of everyone involved until investigations are completed.

Last week, Water Development and Sanitation minister Collins Nzovu expressed disappointment with the state of some water and sanitation projects in Mwinilunga District, particularly the Kawiko water project which had stalled despite the contractor being paid almost all the contract sum.

Nzovu attributed the situation to negligence on the part of North – Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company for paying K14 million to a contractor who has only done 60 percent of work on a contract worth K15 million.

Ngoma stated that the fact that about K14 million was paid out, representing almost 95% of the project’s funds, despite minimal progress, was a clear indication of gross mismanagement and potential corruption.

“We demands a comprehensive investigation into the Mwinilunga Water Project and appeals to the law enforcement agencies to take immediate action so as to recover the misused funds and appropriate penalties for those responsible,” he stated

Ngoma stated that Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Police should investigate individuals who awarded and authorised payments and hold them accountable for their actions.

“The National Construction Council (NCC) should review the contractor’s credentials and performance, taking appropriate action to prevent future malpractices,” he stated.

He also applauded Nzovu for his proactive approach in bringing this matter to light during his recent tour of North-Western Province.

“His commitment to transparency and accountability is commendable, and we urge him to continue pushing for answers,” he stated.
