Information reaching Daily Revelation indicates that incarcerated member of parliament for Mafinga South, Faith Munthali (CF) has been hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Isoka.
But CF acting president Mary Zambezi who has been with Munthali in Muchinga Province when contacted to learn the situation about Munthali said she was at the hospital as she was with a patient who was being attended to by the doctors, but did not mention Munthali as being the one.
Well-placed sources in the CF have told Daily Revelation that Munthali was hospitalised in Isoka under the watch of the police.
”They are treating her over some health condition. And probably the strain of moving her from Chinsali to Muyombe where she was charged yesterday could have contributed to the condition,” sources said.
When contacted for comment, Zambezi said she was at the hospital and that she was monitoring a patient who was being attended to by the doctors. However, she did not mention that the person who was being attended to was Munthali.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said he could not comment on the matter as he was on leave and referred the matter to Mafinga Province police commissioner Lubinda Mayamba.
When contacted for comment, Mayamba asked the journalist to call him after 10 minutes as he needed to confirm the matter with the officer in charge in Isoka. When he was called after the 10 minutes, Mayamba said he had not yet spoken to his officer and that this time around he would call the journalist himself after a few minutes. However, Mayamba’s call is still being awaited as he has not called back after a few minutes, and follow-up calls made to him have gone unanswered.
CF sources have said Munthali was still under the custody of office as she had not been granted bond despite reported assurances of her sureties.
According to media reports, Munthali has been arrested and charged with being armed in public and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Lubinda Mayamba was quoted last week as having said that the offences were allegedly committed between July 13 and August 14, 2026, in the Muyombe area of Mafinga District.
Mayamba said Munthali was allegedly in the company of a group of men said to be serving as her security personnel.
He said the men allegedly conducted themselves in a military-like manner and were armed with machetes, slashers, catapults and golf clubs, causing fear and alarm among members of the public.
Mayamba said Munthali was jointly charged with Gift Simfukwe, Misheck Singogo and Royd Musumali.
He said the three co-accused had already appeared before the Isoka Resident Magistrate’s Court, where they took plea.
Mayamba said trial is scheduled to commence on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
He said Munthali was currently detained in police custody and will appear before court in due course.
He cautioned political and community leaders against engaging in conduct that may threaten public order, cause fear and alarm, or undermine the peace and security of members of the public.
But Kalaba said on Sunday that according to information he had received, Munthali had not yet been charged and that she was to be taken to Moyombe to be charged.
He said it was strange that charges were being heard in the media before Munthali could hear about them herself.
Kalaba said the practice of using state institutions to settle political scores was creating a bad precedence for the country.
He said a losing candidate in Mafinga South had promised ‘heaven on earth’ that they would win the elections but was defeated handsomely by Munthali.
”It is a well known fact that a losing has been engaged in very dirty deals with the powers that be, and because of their erratic nature they feel it is too risky to leave the same outside the corridors of power for fear they might start spilling the beans,” said Kalaba.
In an interview before her arrest, Munthali said there was a plan to have her charged together with three of her supporters who had been held in police custody without charge.
Munthali defeated her competitors including UPND candidate and ‘PF acting president’ Robert Chabinga, in the August 13 general elections.
She said there was a “well-orchestrated” scheme to have her seat nullified.
Munthali said one of her supporters was “framed” after allegedly being accused by UPND cadres of ‘bribery’, as he was seen giving a K20 to a woman he was with to enable her grind the maize.
She alleged that the UPND cadres, without even trying to establish the relationship between the agent and the woman, quickly called in the police who arrested the agent.
She said in another incident, two of her polling agents were allegedly “violently” stopped by UPND cadres and reported to police after they were ‘framed of carrying a slasher’ as they attempted to access one of the polling centres.
Munthali said her supporters were attempting to have one of her polling agents replaced at one of the polling centres after the other one had been forced flee after encountering alleged violence from UPND cadres.
