A student at the Levy Mwanawasa Medical University has questioned whether the University of Zambia (UNZA) is the only university in the country worth President Hakainde Hichilema’s attention to receive increased allowances.
The student who only identified himself as Ishmael, stated that it was unfair to see sister universities get the President’s attention while they got nothing.
“… this is a plea to well wishers, the government, and the president at most,” Ishmael stated. “Concerning student sponsorship and the recent increase in some allowances, nishi unza is the only university with student who need help? It’s unfair to see our sister universities get the most of the president’s attention while we get nothing, we also need bursaries, we need help just like any other student across the nation.”
Ishmael stated that those in government increased allowances yet they claimed that they did not have enough to sponsor even hundred more at other universities, like Levy Mwanawasa Medical University, which was one of Zambia’s largest medical universities received the least of attention.
“And then when we complete school we have to volunteer, we really contribute a lot to the health of the nation. Atleast help us with sponsorship, no one else will help us if you don’t, please help even us, especially medical students,” stated Ishmael. “At least help us with the finances so we at least worry less and focus on the studies, it’s difficult to focus when you don’t even know where you’ll get the money to pay for tuition, rent or even food. We ask for help even from well wishers.”
