COME OUT CLEAR, MWILA TELLS GRANT

By Mubukwanu Kaingu

VETERAN former Zambia coach Fred Mwila has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Avram Grant’s contrasting statements and says the Chipolopolo boss must be given a chance to state his position in person.

The Chipolopolo coach on Monday refuted giving Israeli media a story allegedly attacking FAZ for poor management and issued a statement denying giving the interview pledging his commitment to the job.

Mwila said in an interview that Grant should be given the [pp-logged-users] benefit of the doubt and allowed to tell the nation in person his position on the post-2023 AFCON fallout.

“Let him come back and he will speak for himself whether he is taking the team forward or I am taking the team backwards,” Mwila said.

Grant is an experienced coach and I believe he knows the best way to express himself to the other party rather than engaging a third party.”

Mwila reminded the nation that Grant’s mandate exceeded the high expectations of the 2023 AFCON after Chipolopolo made a group stage exit.

“FAZ did not employ Grant for the AFCON, he was employed as a coach and he is still in charge,” Mwila said.

Mwila added that it was easy for anyone to have an opinion but Grant will clear the air in person over the rumour and hearsay and should put the whole episode to rest once and for all.
