Raphael Nakachinda has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court on a charge of espionage.
Nakachinda the PF faction secretary heneral is facing one count of espionage Contrary to the State Securities Act Chapter 111 of the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that Nakacinda, on an unknown date but between August 26, 2023 and September 16, 2023, in Lusaka, jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown for any purpose prejudicial to the safety or interests of the Republic in a Documentary which was published and communicated on different media platforms titled “The Grand Regional Scheme : How Foreign Powers and Local elites are destroying Africa Part 1” did give information which might be or is intended to be directly or indirectly useful to a foreign power or disaffected person.
Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili, allocated the matter to magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli.
When the matter came up for explanation of charge before Magistrate Mwamfuli, Nakacinda said he understood the charge.
However, the State said the instructions for committal of the matter to the High Court from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Gilbert Phiri were not ready.
“The instructions are not ready. Therefore, we seek an adjournment to wait for instructions from the DPP. We ask for two weeks,” they said.
Magistrate Mwamfuli has since adjourned the case to March 14, 2024, for mention and possible committal to the High Court.
Nakacinda is being represented by Makebi Zulu, Nkula Botha and Emmanuel Phiri.
