ECL’s camp wants to form another party – Chama … They are discussing this openly in blogs

Former president Edgar Lungu’s camp is exploring forming another political party, says suspended party chairman Davies Chama.

And Chama said a top leader in the PF was trying to arrange for him to meet Edgar Lungu, but the fillers he got were that the former president was not prepared to meet with people who do not support his agenda of coming back to lead the party.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Chama said he was puzzled with the level of arrogance and self-preservation those in Lungu’s

camp were going about handling matters, saying they want to accuse others of being incorrigible yet they are the ones with the same attitude.

“I was trying to talk to one MP in the top leadership that you need to sit down to resolve these matters, and he just came out and said ‘we can’t sit down with that man (Miles)’. The fillers I am getting is that is the attitude of the top leadership,” Chama said. “One of them asked ECL (Edgar Chagwa Lungu) to see me so there can be a way of resolving matters, and the fillers I got on new year is that he’s not interested in talking to the other people he feels are not prepared to support his agenda.”

He charged at people he said were behaving like they own the former ruling party, and as if “they are the alpha and omega” of the organization.

“From their camp they are exploring formation of another party … Not going to the convention was to ensure that this party does not move forward. When you advise, it’s either you are UPND or pro-Miles, yet I have been engaging both parties,” Chama said.

He said plans about forming another party was not something those from the former president’s camp were hiding, saying it was everywhere on the social blogs from people who belonged to Lungu’s camp.

“These are the issues that they discuss … they don’t even hide,” Chama said, arguing that those who think of that possibility were just masquerading as PF and not patriotic to late president Michael Sata and the party. “You can’t hate a person to an extent that if Miles Sampa is president of the party then you cannot be PF, then you cannot support PF. It’s unacceptable. And yet when president Sata died, president Lungu took over and we went to convince a lot of people to support president Lungu to make sure that the party is strong.”

He said the problems in the former ruling party were not irreconcilable, and that while some were posting messages of “love, reconciliation and blah blah blah”, if they truly behaved in like manner as what they were preaching they could not vow to work against some people.

Chama laughed off claims that Lungu had come back to stabilise the party by taking it to the convention and not contest the 2026 general elections, wondering what was so difficult with doing the same from the outside.

He described as weird the assertion that he did not support Lungu’s comeback when he was merely supporting the former president’s own position that he had retired from active politics, and that he was waiting to prove claims that Lungu would not run for 2026.

“So president Lungu is not a factor for 2026 unless again they are telling another lie. And it’s just a matter of time it shall also be exposed,” said Chama. “A lot of people who support honourable Chishimba Kambwili have been indicating that they have been told that president Lungu will not be on the ballot, he has just come to resolve the differences in the party. But I can assure you up to now, two months down the line from the time he came back no reconciliation is taking place.”
