Former Health minister Angela Cifire says ministers Sylvia Masebo, Peter Kapala and Mtolo Phiri should be reshuffled for incompetence going by the outcry from the people.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Cifire who campaigned with the UPND in the 2021 general elections, said Zambians were now being treated to a situation where they were wondering whether there was indecision or not, saying a reshuffle was long overdue and the country should have even seen people fired on account of incompetence as that was what political appointments called for.
“We seem to be very tolerant of the mediocrity that is exhibited at time,” she said, adding that there has been serious public outcry about the performance in the three ministries, describing the same as something she had never seen before.
She said since the people were the owners of government, it was important to examine what the same people were crying out against and that if the appointing authority felt that he still needed the same people, it could be that they were in the wrong place and therefore the need to find them the right place where they should be.
“The ministries that we have seen people crying out over has been the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture. So whatever it is, if these are the right people that the authorities feel they should work with, yes they can serve, but let them serve in different capacity so that we see whether the change is going to bring an improvement,” Cifire said.
But asked if she would serve if called upon, Cifire said Zambia was not short of people and that everyone was entitled and the appointing authority has so many to pick from.
She said she would not want to dwell on herself, “although I think I am exposed enough.”
