Socialist Party leader Dr Fred M’membe has asked President Hakainde Hichilema where the solutions he had whilst in opposition on ending loadshedding are.
And Dr M’membe said the opposition has tried advising President Hichilema on ending loadshedding, but he can’t listen as he only listens to his “inner demons” and white people.
Speaking during his address yesterday, Dr M’membe said the UPND was elected on the promises they made about loadshedding and other things.
“Mr Hichilema spoke at length, on many occasions about how he was going to end the problem of loadshedding,” Dr M’membe said “Within a few months of being in government, he was boasting that he had ended loadshedding, today he is asking for solutions, and does he listen to solutions? who does Mr Hichilema listens to? he doesn’t listen to anyone, other than white people, foreigners and so on. He doesn’t listen even to his own party, in his own government, he only listens to his inner demons. That is the only thing he listens to, it is not a question of solution, solutions are there.”
Dr M’membe said the only solution to ending loadshedding was to stop the export of power
“We are exporting electricity. They were saying … the minister said they were exporting 995 megawatts, although Zesco itself announced that they were exporting more than 280, l think 285 megawatts. I don’t know between the two of them who is telling the truth, we need to bring back that,” he said.
Dr M’membe said the administration of land should not be left to “politicians alone, because they were not” trust worthy.
He further commended the chiefs of Luapula Province for rejecting the giving of land to a foreign investor
“But I am glad with the position taken by our chiefs in Luapula, that is the way to go. Nga shitisha impanga yonse, ba poka impanga yonse bwapwa, nga ubufumu bwesu bwapwa naifwe twapwa.( If they sale all the land, they grab the land, there will be no chiefdoms, if there is no chiefdom, then we as a people, that will be the end of us.),” said Dr M’membe.
