President Hakainde Hichilema has fired Education permanent secretary Joel Kamoko with immediate effect.

According to a statement issued by Chief Communications specialist Clayson Hamasaka, the decision was made pursuant to article 270 of the constitution of Zambia.

Hamasaka stated that the President continued to implore all public officers to serve diligently and with dedication to national duties.

“President Hichilema has terminated with immediate effect the appointment of Kamoko as Permanent Secretary in charge of technical services in the Ministry of Education,” read the statement in part.

President Hichilema expressed gratitude to Kamoko for his service to the government and wished him well in his future endeavors.

On Sunday, Kamoko featured on ZNBC in a seemingly drunken state and was struggling to speak.

At some point, what he said was not making sense.

Kamoko’s conduct received wide condemnation from members of the public who said he was not being a good example as a leader and should have probably stayed away from the interview instead of going in the state he was.
