Chienge independent member of parliament Given Katuta has praised the UPND administration for employing over 30,000 teachers, saying she never imagined that her daughter who had stayed jobless for nine years could get employed one day.
But Local Government minister Garry Nkombo says his own nephew was left out on the teacher recruitment exercise, saying his colleague at Ministry of Education Douglas Syakalima told him that he will just have to wait for another exercise whenever it will come up.
During parliamentary proceedings, Katuta praised the transparency in the recruitment exercise such that her daughter was picked without her knowledge, saying she never anticipated that her child would be employed one day having stayed home for nine years.
But Nkombo, who also praised what he said was a transparent exercise, said it was the opposite on his side as his brother’s son who applied from Chibombo had been left out, saying he called Syakalima asking how he could be helped but was told that he will have to wait another time.
He said he remained hopeful that his nephew would be employed in future.
And delivering a ministerial statement Transport and Logistics acting minister Charles Milupi said the RATSA system had developed challenges on processing the huge demand for fitness and road tax, hence the slowness experienced.
But Kabushi member of parliament Bowman Lusambo asserted that the system failed because all the UPND administration fired directors at the institution, accusing them of being PF cadres, and that one of them with expertise on the machines refused to be reinstated after he was called in.
But Milupi said there was no truth in what Lusambo was saying the system did not fail because experienced people were laid off, however, agreeing that six officials were suspended to pave way for investigations where over 33,000 vehicles had no marching records.
He said the UPND were not victimizing anybody as opposed to the situation where “we had ministers of certain provinces beating people because they did not wear face masks.
