I am now on leave and will restrict my political debates to parliament, says Kabushi member of parliament Bowman Lusambo.
Reacting to UPND’s Costain Chilikwazi who asked him not to restrict his apology to President Hakainde Hichilema but all the Zambian people whose feelings he said Lusambo has injured, the former Lusaka Province minister said he would not be drawn into some political debates outside Parliament but through parliament, where he enjoys some Parliamentary privileges to comment on governance issues and other matters of national importance.
“I can’t say anything at the moment. I am currently on leave when it comes to such matters. I am on leave until July. For now, I will restrict my political debates in Parliament and not outside Parliament,” said Lusambo.
Chilikwazi, in an earlier interview with Daily Revelation, said that while President Hakainde Hichilema will find it prudent to forgive those that have been offending him, including individuals that were behind his arrest on treason charges, the Kabushi member of parliament should extend his apology to the Zambian citizens whose feelings he “injured during the reign of the Patriot Front.”
Chilikwazi, who is UPND Lusaka district information and publicity secretary for mobilisation, charged that Lusambo wronged a lot of people during the reign of the Patriot Front, adding that it will be illogical for Lusambo to limit his apology to the Head of State.
Chilikwazi pointed out that at personal level President Hichilema has demonstrated his willingness to forgive those that have been offending, including those that “arrested him on treason charges.”
“The apology that Bowman Lusambo rendered to President Hakainde Hichilema cannot go without comment. In as much as the President is at liberty to accept the apology by the former Lusaka Province minister, we feel that Lusambo should extend his apology to the Zambian people because he offended many people when the PF was in government,” explained Chilikwazi. “Lusambo stepped on the toes of many people, including President Hakainde Hichilema. We are aware that the President Hakainde Hichilema has shown his willingness to forgive those that have been offending him, including those that arrested him on treason charges.”
Chilikwazi also justified the transferring of Judicial officers across the country.
He charged that most magistrates that have been transferred from Lusaka to other regions of the country were hindering the fight against corruption.
“We welcome the decision taken by the Judicial Service Commission for taking drastic measures aimed at ensuring that there efficiency in the delivery of justice in the country,” said Chilikwazi. “Most of the magistrates that have been transferred were those that have paying allegiance to the previous regime.”
