Government will thoroughly investigate those who are behind the abduction of Petauke Central independent Member of Parliament Emmanuel JayJay Band, says Home Affairs minister Jack Mwimbu.
Updating the nation on the abduction of Banda, Mwimbu said the government will do everything possible to bring those responsible to book.
“I am glad to inform the nation that, honourable Jay Banda is safe and he’s alive. He is currently at Maina Soko Military Hospital and undergoing medical checkups. I want to inform the nation that it is important that our colleague is in a safe environment until we thorougly investigate the matter. We need to protect him, we don’t know who was responsible for the abduction,” Mwiimbu said. “I would like to assure the family that we will do everything possible to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to book. It is in the interest of the family and nation to know who is behind this criminal activity.”
Mwimbu requested the family to corporate with the government as they endeavoured to find the perpetrators of this crime.
“It is in their interest to ensure that their brother, uncle is in a safe environment. Maina Soko Military Hospital is the safe and environment. Our brother Jay Jay Banda is not the first one to be in Maina Soko Hospital. The officers there, the doctors there and the medical personnel are professional individuals,” Mwiimbu said.
Mwimbu urged politicians against insinuating that thr government was involved in the abduction of Banda, arguing that when the UPND was in opposition, one of their vice presidents who was now a member of the UKA alliance was abducted, and that they did not point the finger at the government but they allowed the due process of law to take course
“We allowed the police to investigate the matter thoroughly. It is the same police who are in place currently, we are doing the investigations,” said Mwiimbu.
