KAPALA SET TO COMMISSION TAZAMA PIPELINE MONDAY, PROMISES REDUCED PRICES IN DIESEL

By Patson Chilemba

Energy minister Peter Kapala says he will be commissioning the TAZAMA pipeline on Monday following progress made on the works on the pipeline.

Cleaning works have been ongoing at the pipeline which carries feedstock from Tanzania to Zambia.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Kapala said he has left the weekend allowance just for the necessary test works on the progressed work and he will be in Ndola to open the valve during the Monday commissioning.

He said the country has been spending about $200 per cubic meter to transport the feedstock from Tanzania but with the opening of TAZAMA, the cost will come down to about $65 – $70, saying it goes without saying that that in itself will lead to reduced prices in diesel.

He said for now the pipeline will carry diesel of up to 80 percent demand and that the other 20 percent will be carried by state owned railway companies, Zambia Railways and TAZARA.
