Man Commits Suicide following marital dispute over FRA money

A 35-year old man of Kapiri Mposhi  has committed suicide after a marital dispute, resulting from misuse of Food Reserve Agency (FRA) funds. 

Police sources have confirmed the development in an interview with Daily Revelation Newspaper and identified the deceased as John Mwalula 35, of

  Kashitu ward in Chief Nkole’s area in Kapiri Mposhi district.

Police revealed that the deceased died after allegedly drinking a named pesticide on October 1, 2023 around 02:30 hours after he picked a quarrel with his wife over the misuse of money he got from the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) after the sale of the maize. 

“The couple is said to have sold maize to the Food Reserve Agency worth about K50,000. And when the husband by the name of James Mwalula got the said money, he disappeared from the farm and only returned five days later and only gave the wife K10,000. It was at that moment that the wife got incensed and a quarrel ensued. The now deceased opted to go out of the house and when he came back no one knew that he had bought some doom and drunk the pesticide. The empty bottle of the pesticide was only discovered by a family member,” Police sources explained. “The matter was then reported at Turnoff Police Post.”

The Police source also said the body of the deceased has been deposited in the Kapiri Mposhi district hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
