A 40-year old teacher of Mkushi district has committed suicide after allegedly drinking a suspected poisonous substance due suspected marital disputes.
It is reported that the deceased had a family dispute with the wife which resulted in the couple separating.
It is further reported that as the couple continued to live on separation, Julius wrote messages to his family and friends that he wanted to commit suicide.
Central Province Commissioner Roy Kashimba confirmed the incident in an interview with Daily Revelation and identified the deceased as Julius, of the High Cost area in Mkushi district.
Kashimba said sister to the deceased Bester Zulu reported to the police that Julius had committed suicide.
“Female Bester Zulu reported to the effect that her young brother Julius Zulu, aged 40, of Mkushi high cost area, also of village Mutoniya in Katete district that a teacher committed suicide on suspicion that he drunk unknown chemical or substance,” Kashimba explained. “Brief facts are that on an unknown date and time in 2022 Julius Zulu aged 40, who is now the deceased, had a family dispute with his wife and they went on separation. Since that time, disputes continued until the deceased wrote text messages to the family and friends that he wanted to commit suicide. Between 30th November and 3 December, 2023 around 10:30 hours he was found lying unconscious at his Naledi Pre-School in Mkushi high cost area after being suspected to have taken poisonous substances. He was rushed to Mkushi district hospital where he died around 19:00 hours.”
He said that the body of the deceased has been deposited in Mkushi district hospital mortuary.
