UPND deputy secretary general Gertrude Imenda has wondered why the opposition political parties keep accusing the UPND of manipulating and interfering in the judiciary but when the court rules in their favour, they do not thank the government for manipulating in their favour.
Imenda was responding to claims from the opposition suggesting that the UPND are interfering in the judicial process and keep manipulating the judiciary in order to oppress the opposition in the country.
In an interview with Daily Revelation, Imenda said the UPND rules by the rule of law and does not interfere in the judicial process.
She, however, wondered why the opposition did not thank the government for manipulating court cases in their favour.
“I’m just surprised that these people in the opposition, when the court rules against them, accuse this government and the UPND of having a hand and manipulated and all of that. But when the court rules in their favour, they are thanking the court and forget to go back to the person they were accusing to say this time you manipulated in our favour,” she said.
Imenda has reiterated that the UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema did not interfere in the judiciary.
“What kind of people are these? What kind of thinking is this? The President does not manipulate or does not interfere in the court processes. The judgements or ruling that come from there are purely from the judiciary and the judiciary is a separate arm of government,” said Imenda.
“Let us learn to have diplomatic politics and not politics where we keep accusing the President of interfering when he doesn’t do such things”.
