Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Moyo has directed Home Affairs  minister Jack Mwiimbu to issue a ministerial statement providing a detailed update on what caused the violence among political caders during Youth Day celebrations.

The directive came in response to an urgent matter raised by Kalabo Central member of parliament Chinga Miyutu who questioned why the nation was not being informed about what transpired during the youth day celebrations.

“Mr speaker, I closed my eyes when I watched this clip, and I remembered the movie Sarafina. I watch Sarafina because it shows me what used to happen in South Africa during the reign of apatheid, where you would find police hitting a human being like a stone ,” he said.

Miyutu wanted Mwimbu to update the nation on what led to such a scene.

“Police were hitting harmless boys who had nothing, if you see the way they were hitting these boys as if they are criminals. Wouldn’t the minister surely update us on what led to such a scene that those boys could be hammered with those short buttons like that,” he said.

In response, Moyo said Mwiimbu should update the house on Wednesday next week.

“We will request honourable minister of Home Affairs to update the house on Wednesday next week on what transpired during the youth day celebration,” ordered Moyo.
