Major Ben Phiri has appealed to Inspector General of police Lemmy Kajoba to promote all the nine officers not necessarily to their next rank but two notches up for what he describes as theirb professional conduct.

In a statement, Maj Phiri stated that the professional conduct of officers deserves special recognition as they clearly confined themselves to acceptable operational perimeters though their lives were in danger.

“I wish to appeal to Inspector General of police Mr Lemmy Kajoba, to promote all the nine officers not necessarily to their next rank but two notches up. Constables can land the Inspector’s rank while sergeants can be catapulted to the rank of chief inspector. Ordinarily, we were going to lose a lot of lives if it were not for the professionalism exhibited by police officers in the Katete incident,” stated Maj Phirim who operates in the office of the UPND secretary general Batuke Imenda.

He stated argued that notwithstanding that the villagers were riled by the ostensible headman’s complicity in the release of the murder suspects, the former should have employed other means of venting their anger, commending the police officers who restrained themselves to the maximum and resisted the temptation to use live ammunition against their attackers
