PROTEST AT YOUR OWN RISK, POLICE WARNS UNEMPLOYED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, TEACHERS

By Staff Reporter

You will be protesting at your own risk, police has warned the unemployed health professionals and teachers planning to protest their delayed employment tomorrow.

Reacting to the notification of the planned protest, police acting spokesperson Danny Mwale told Daily Revelation that the police is not aware of the planned protest.

“(They will be protesting) at their won risk yes, because the regulating officers are not aware,” he said.

But asked why the Inspector General of Police did not bring the notification before his juniors in this one week period since the notification was sent to his office, Mwale said IG Lemmy Kajoba landed in Lusaka today.

But asked if there was no one who acted on his behalf when he was out of the country, Mwale said the matter was addressed specifically to a person, saying it went to his office and was just seeing it today.

Mwale said their notification was wrongly directed as instead of being directed to Lusaka Province it was directed to the Inspector General of Police at police headquarters.

He said the request has not reached Lusaka Province, wondering where the unemployed teachers and health professionals stance was without the response from the police.

Mwale said the representative from those wishing to protest was at headquarters today but was told to see the commanding officer for Lusaka Province, saying he was not aware if he has done so.

“So as it is if they go ahead tomorrow, we are not aware us. The owners of the province are not aware so the best I can do to come in between is just to advise the rescheduling. Politely that is what I can do,” he said.

Put to him that according to the law those intending to protest only need to give police a seven day notice, and it does not mention one having to file a notice at any particular police station, Mwale said the notifications are channeled to the regulating officers who in this case are not aware.
