Shikapwasha’s wife appears before court for murder charge … committed to High court for trial

Late former Cabinet minister Ronnie Shikapwasha’s widow, Jane Lusengo has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates Court for allegedly killing her husband.

Shikapwasha 76, died in January this year at Maina Soko Hospital, a day after he was allegedly shot by the wife at their home in Ibex.

The widow 73, is charged with murder contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that  Lusengo on January 15, 2024, in Lusaka, murdered her husband.

The accused who looked calm and collected showed up from the court tunnels dressed in a black  dress, navy blue jersey, black head wrap and  a pink scarf wrapped around her neck.

When her case was  called for allocation, she calmly stood up and waited to be told where to go for her matter to be explained.

A good number of friends and relatives were present to witness her appearance in court.

When she appeared before magistrate Keegan Litiya for explanation of the charge, Lusenga said she understood the charge.

The court later informed her that she was only appearing for explanation of the charge before him as he had no jurisdiction to hear her case.

But  state prosecutor Patrick Mungala  informed the court  the instructions to commit Lusengo to the High Court were ready.

Following the issuance of instructions by the State, the court told Lusenga that instructions to committee her to the High Court had been filed.

Magistrate Litiya told  the accused that she would be informed by her lawyers when her matter is cause listed at the High Court.
