The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has dismissed claims that a joint operations team from the DEC and the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) surrounded the house of the former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu while he accompanied Esther to the Lusaka Magistrate Court.
DEC public relations officer Allan Tamba stated that no such operation took place stressing that the officers wanted to deliver a call-out to Lungu’s daughter Tasila Mwansa who is currently wanted for questioning by the Commission.
In a statement, Tamba stated that acting within the provisions of the laws, a team of DEC officers did visit Tasila’s residence which is believed to be property Number F/4142/9/14/P- Farm behind Economic Zone- MFEZ Chifwema.
‘The purpose of the said visit was to serve a call- out under warrant, to Mrs. Tasila Lungu Mwansa, who was said to be not at the residence. However, upon arrival, officers found a Security Guard from Corvus Security. Officers then introduced themselves and explained the purpose of the visit,” Tamba stated.
Tamba stated that in the ensuing conversation, the security guard mentioned that he was not the one in charge of the property and as such, resolved to contact a fellow security guard who came with a shotgun.
“Officers then re-introduced themselves to the second security guard and explained to him the purpose of the visit. Initially, he was compliant and willing to receive the call-out, but requested to get instructions from an unknown person and upon return from the Guard House located at the entrance to the said property, he refused to receive the call-out,” stated Tamba.
And DEC has summoned Tasila to appear before commission for questioning tomorrow.
In a statement made available to Daily Revelation, DEC director general Nason Banda stated that the notice issued was requesting Tasila to report to the DEC officer tomorrow.
“Take note that you are required to appear at the DEC offices situated at the headquarters along government road on Thursday, 15th August 2024, at 11:30 hours without fail,” stated Banda.
