President Hakainde Hichilema has said that the country cannot attain sustainable development without fostering peace and unity.

Speaking he led Christians from different denomitions in commemorating the National Day of Prayers, Fasting and Reconciliation in Mansa district of Luapula Province on Monday, President Hakainde Hichilema pointed out that unity of purpose is important in order for the country to register tangible and sustainable development.

The Head of State said the UPND government is determined to ensuring that development is accelerated development accros the country.

“We might be coming from different Churches, but we are one in the body of Christ. We need to be united… we need to foster unity in order for the country to attain sustainable development. We need unity of purpose for us to register the development that we desire for,” said President Hichilema.

And speaking earlier when he addressed Mansa residents in the morning, President Hichilema assured the people of Luapula Province that the UPND administration will ensure that government contracts benefit the local people.

President Hichilema explained that the UPND came to power by promising to creating jobs for the Zambian populace, adding that this can only be actualised by engaging local people in the execution of government contracts.

The Head of State further pledged to ease the process of the acquisition of mining licences.

He explained that this will enable the Zambian people to engage in small scale mining activities, such as manganese mining

The Head of State is in Luapula Province for a working visit.
