THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF ARVS IN COPPERBELT, SAYS DR MWEWA

Chingola district director of health Dr Davis Mwewa has refuted media reports suggesting that the Copperbelt Province district is facing a shortage of ARVs.

In statement issued on Wednesday and availed to Daily Revelation, Dr Mwewa said the audio interview that has gone viral and used as a news item by some media houses is misleading.

Dr Mwewa has stated that the Network of People Living with HIV district coordinator that issued the audio interview has no clue on the stock levels of medicines that are in district.

“My office has received with concern an audio interview of the network coordinator stating that there is lack of ARVS in health facilities in Chingola. This is not only misleading, but also highly unprofessional for journalists to post unverified information to the public.”

Dr Mwewa continued.

“The said district network coordinator has absolutely no clue on the stock levels of medicines in Chingola to which only my office is privy to.”

Dr Mwewa has since advised journalists to ensure that they verify information that come in their possession by virtue of their profession with relevant line ministries before publishing such unverified statements.

“In future I request journalists to verify such statements with relevant line ministries to avert anxiety among members of the public,” Dr Mwewa added.
