THIS IS A FAILED LEADERSHIP SCARED OF LUNGU, OPPOSITION ALLIANCES, CHARGES CHAMA

By Isaac Zulu

This is a scared leadership that is fearful of Edgar Lungu and opposition alliances, says PF national chairman and former Defence minister Davies Chama.

In an interview, Chama charged that the UPND administration is scared of opposition political parties because they know that they have failed to govern.

“This is leadership premised on rumours and take everything that is being discussed on the streets and some blogs as gospel truth. There are some proposals for the formation of alliances among opposition political parties. These proposals are flying all over the media. But like I said, this is a scared leadership. They are so fearful, they are scared of retired president Edgar Lungu, they are scared of political alliances and they are scared of their own shadows. And that is why they are failing to govern,” said Chama.

Chama said that it is not illegal for political parties to go into alliances, and that PF cannot rule out the possibility of going into an alliance with the Socialist Party.

Nevertheless, Chama said there have never been any concrete discussions about the PF and the Socialist Party going into an alliance as asserted by UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa, saying that the Southern Province minister is just hallucinating.

“Anything that is not illegal is a possibility in the political space. If is not illegal for political parties to go into an alliance. We cannot rule out that possibility. But the Patriot Front has not made any concrete discussions with the Socialist Party regarding that issue,” Chama said. “That proposal can only be considered by the highest organ of the party, which is the Central Committee. So I don’t where Cornelius Mweetwa is getting that information. Basically he is just hallucinating.”

He said that while in opposition the UPND went into an alliance with other political parties “and no one gave it a quam” and wondered why this should give the UPND leadership headaches after forming government.

“Why should that be a problem with Honourable Cornelius Mweetwa the UPND? The UPND had alliance partners in the run up to the 2021 general elections and no one gave it any quam,” Chama explained. “I am glad that Mweetwa is talking about that issue. Who knows, maybe he is giving us some strategies. And if certain proposals are progressive, we shall favourably consider them.”

The UPND government has never teargassed Lungu. It has never arrested him on trumped-up Treason charges. It has never sent cadres to block his movements. The police have always acted professionally in dealing with the crime family of Lungu.
