THOSE ADVISING LUNGU TO RUN AGAIN HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER, SAYS PF MP … they should retire with him

By Patson Chilemba

Edgar Lungu should encourage the people urging him to run for the presidency to retire with him as they have nothing to offer, says Kantanshi member of parliament (PF) Anthony Mumba.

Speaking with Daily Revelation over reported maneuvering in the PF to create room for Lungu to fill up the PF presidency in order to contest the 2026 general elections, Mumba said he hoped the entire PF leadership would have rebranded by now, almost two years after they were voted out of office.

“Well, If there is any truth in it (Lungu running again) then president Edgar Lungu is making a very grave mistake and a regrettable one for that matter because he has already done his race. I think what the focus should have been that the entire leadership should have been sorted out, rebranded and ready to provide the necessary checks and balances to the UPND,” Mumba said. “But if really there are people who are advising him that (he stands), well, my message to him is that he ignores those individuals. Those individuals do not mean well for him. Those individuals do not mean well for PF and those individuals, he himself should encourage them to retire with him because then they have nothing to offer in terms of the growth of the PF.”

And Mumba said the residents of Munambe, Murundu and Mikambo area in his Kantanshi constituency are having to leave their national registration cards with Zambia National Service officers who have mounted checkpoints when going to buy mealie meal.

He said because of the same restrictions, some milling companies are no longer taking mealie meal to those places thereby forcing residents to follow the meal meal into town as the available commodity in their communities is costing around K200.

He said the law on smuggling stipulates that one is only engaged in smuggling if they are 50 meters from the border, but the check point has been mounted almost 9 kilometers from the border, describing the situation as disappointing as the country has never faced a situation like this since the liberalisation of the economy where people have to exchange their NRCs to have access to the staple food.

Mumba urged those in the UPND administration to look into the matter.
