Unscheduled loadshedding a disaster – Lundazi MP

Lundazi member of parliament Brenda Nyirenda businesses in her constituency have closed down due extended hours of loadshedding.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Revelation, Nyirenda described the situation as disaster.

“It is a disaster, because businesses are closed. It is not only the increased number of hours, but also unfortunate unscheduled timing. We have bakeries that have made serious losses. They will put their bread in the oven and before the bread is even done, it is ready and the power would have already gone,” Nyirenda said.

She appealed to the government to recommission the stand by generators they decommissioned, because businesses in Lundazi had come to a standstill.

“It is very difficult to operate in such a circumference. Unfortunately the stand by generators were decommissioned in Lundazi. So at the moment, we do not have anything to fall back on. The time we were disconnected from the grid, they decommissioned the genset,” Nyirenda said.

“So it would have been better if there were any caring powers that be, to reconnect us to stand by gensets. Because those were already there and they were helping but at the moment, It is a disaster. The businesses can’t operate, milling companies can’t mill. So it is a problem to our constituency.”
