Former Commerce minister Bob Sichinga has charged that the UPND administration is patting itself on the back deceitfully, saying the manner President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration has gone about governing the country is not what he expected.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Sichinga said even if he remained pleased that the PF was booted out of office and would not want them back in again, he remained disappointed that the UPND from whom much was expected has put in a very poor showing thus far.
“It’s not what I expected. I expected a lot better because I thought we are dealing with people who understand business. I expected a lot better,” he said.
Sichinga said despite the promises made that the price of fuel would come down to K12, the reality was that it was double that amount with the UPND in office, arguing that they might argue that this was because of the Ukraine war, but the prices started going up even before the hostilities between Russia and Ukraine started.
He said poor management was the only way he could describe the decision to increase fuel prices on a monthly basis.
He said it was therefore indecent for those in the ruling party to be patting themselves on the back as doing that was synonymous with deceit.
“You may think you are fooling people but the problems will remain,” said Sichinga, and that the UPND had a lot of goodwill which they could have used to get the country a better package than the 1.3 million dollars IMF package, and that from the first instance, more effort should have been applied to court China which is the biggest bilateral lender to the country but there was not even a single visit from the President to that country.
