Green Party President Peter Sikamba says the United Party for National Development (UPND) had done nothing that inspires the country since it came into power.
Sinkamba says that the country has been experiencing economic hardships in the last three years since the UPND came into office.
He told.Daily Revelation that there is need to bring a party on board that will develop the country and rebound the economy.
“Almost four years now of UPND rule, there is nothing that inspires us or which can inspire anyone but the 60 of independence have added value to our country, look at the performance on good governance issues, how the opposition is being undermined to hold rallies, how the opposition is being arrested on the newly discovered sedition charged is so pathetic,” he said.
“We have had various aspirations to try and improve the quality of life for citizens. There was a point when between 1964 and 1975 when the economy was good, Zambia almost became a developed country,”
He said the country now has gone into an economic decay with rising poverty levels.
“As we move into the future, after 60 years, we hope that those that are going to be given the responsibility to run the country will not bring us where we are today, right on our knees, in terms of the economy,” he said.
Sinkamba hoped that the resilience of the Zambian people will make them prevail in the next elections and bring on board a party that will turn around the fortunes of the country.
