Chishimba Kambwili’s close associate Charity Banda has blamed the manner the UPND has been conducting politics as having contributed towards the deaths of Chishimba Kambwili’s brothers, Mutale and Mwamba, in a road traffic accident yesterday.
Banda said Kambwili in the company of his late brothers, the driver and his lawyer Kennedy Mambwe, were yesterday involved in a road traffic accident in Northern Province as they were due for a court appearance over the appeal case after he was convicted to five months imprisonment due to hate speech.
But Banda wondered why the case was being heard in Northern Province in the first place, thousands of kilometers away from Lusaka or Copperbelt where he resides.
She said the UPND sympathisers who were suing former leaders in the PF and others they felt aggrieved with had made it a habit of punishing other nationals by reporting cases in far flung areas, away from where the people they were reporting lived.
“This system of ferrying people is bad. If they have a sense of shame those in UPND should say we are the ones who have caused this,” Banda said. “Being the loving brothers that Mutale and Mwamba were, they accompanied their brother for a court hearing not knowing they were saying goodbye. People should have a human face. You get someone from Lusaka, why take him to Kasama?”
Banda said the deaths should not be blamed on witchcraft, saying those who were reasonable would easily understand that it was much safer to travel shorter distances as opposed to long ones.
Banda also said the burial for the deceased would be held at Kambwili’s house in Luanshya, saying the information she had was that the family would buy the coffins with the government helping to handle other matters, including ferrying the bodies to Luanshya.
Kambwili, together with Mambwe and the driver were evacuated from Kasama to Lusaka this afternoon, aboard a Zambian Flying Doctor Plane.
“The information we have is that he will be admitted to Maina Soko Military Hospital,” said Banda.
