The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) has urged the public to verify that engineers they wish to engage hold valid practicing certificates before hiring them for any projects.
In an interview yesterday, EIZ public relations manager Ntalasha Yulu explained that this step was crucial in ensuring that only qualified engineers undertook the projects, thereby, safeguarding public safety.
Yulu explained that registration and certification helped maintain professional standards and prevented substandard work in the engineering sector.
She said EIZ was mandated to regulate the engineering profession and registration was a legal requirement for all engineers.
She said EIZ observed that some individuals were practicing engineering without valid licenses, which was illegal and possessed a risk to public safety.
“The public needs to be vigilant and ensure that they hire engineers who are registered and certified by the EIZ,” said Yulu. “Certification serves as proof of an engineer’s qualifications and competence.”
