Chishimba Kambwili says the PF is not celebrating the election loss but the statistics from the Kabwata election results, after the PF was beaten so badly during the 2021 general elections.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Kambwili said the PF was now confident that their standing was not as bad as thought after they lost the 2021 general elections.
“Nobody celebrates a loss, but merely celebrating statistics. Statistics don’t look so bad barely five months after we were defeated so badly, which means that people don’t have confidence in the new government,” Kambwili said.
He said normally when a party was new in office people were ready to go out of their way to vote for the new ruling party in numbers, as they were still enjoying the affection of the people, which he said was not the case with the UPND.
“When there is apathy it means people are not happy with the government,” Kambwili said.
But put to him that the percentage difference in the margin of victory by the UPND had not changed from the August 2021 elections, as it was still the same 9 percent, Kambwili said the UPND should also explain why people were not so eager to come out and vote barely six months after voting for them overwhelmingly, and they should also explain why given the same apathy, their votes reduced by 25,000 as compared to 20,000 for the PF.
He said during the PF’s era of dominance when they had the affection of the people, they used to obliterate the opposition, not just the UPND but the combined opposition votes, by far.
Kambwili further urged the police to be neutral, and not just react to arrest PF members just because the UPND cried “wolf.”
“We don’t want what used to happen to happen in the previous regime, where cadres used to say ‘arrest this one’ and they they arrest. That is not good for Zambian. We are all fighting cadreism that showed its ugly head in the PF regime,” Kambwili said, adding that people should not be arrested and have their vehicles smashed just because they were going round to check on the results or how the voting was going.
