WE ARE YET TO CONSULT WHETHER GBM SHOULD TRAVEL – IMMIGRATION

By Patson Chilemba

The Immigration Department says it is yet to consult relevant stakeholders over questions on whether there are restrictions on Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba and his wife traveling outside the country.

And Mwamba said he cannot leave “his empire” which is mostly here in Zambia to escape to another country.

In a letter dated June 16, 2022 from the Department headquarters to Mwamba’s lawyers Ellis & Co, the Department responded to Mwamba’s lawyers who had earlier written to them on June 15, 2022 requesting to know whether there are restrictions on Mwamba and his wife’s travel to South Africa.

“RE: Dr. Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba and Mrs. Chama Mwenso Mwamba. Reference is made to the above captioned matter and your letter dated 15th June, 2022. We are in receipt of your letter requesting us to advise whether there are any restrictions on your clients travel to South Africa,” stated a director in the Department P Chikamba. “Kindly be informed that we are yet to consult relevant stakeholders and will respond in reasonable time.”

Mwamba earlier told Daily Revelation that the department had stopped him, his wife and son from traveling out of the country under what he claimed the orders from President Hakainde Hichilema.

And responding to social media reports that he had been stopped while attempting to flee the country with his family at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport by the Department, Mwamba said there was no way he could flee if President Hichilema himself failed to do so during his time in the opposition.

“I love my country and the people and I have to fight tooth and nail for them. Whether I am harassed I shall be in Zambia. I am not a weak soul. Just that I like to travel. I was out of the county for two months not too long ago,” said Mwamba.
