Patriotic Front [PF] and opposition United Party for National Development [UPND] members in Kabwe clashed on Tuesday night.
And the Zambia Police command in Central Province has refuted reports circulating on Facebook that Patriotic Front Kabwe Central Parliamentary candidate Tutwa Ngulube was beaten by residents in the area for allegedly tempering with ballot papers at the Civic Centre.
In an interview on with Daily Revelation Wednesday, Central Province Police Commissioner Chola Katanga confirmed that party cadres from the ruling PF and the opposition UPND clashed in Kabwe’s Kafulamase area on Tuesday night, adding that no injuries were reported because police officers rushed to the area to quench the spontaneous clashes.
“Yes, can confirm that there were some clashes on Tuesday evening in Kafulamase area that involved the PF and UPND cadres. There were just spontaneous clashes, but our alert police officers rushed to the same area and managed to ensure that law and order prevail. There were no reports of any injuries,” explained Katanga.
Meanwhile, Katanga has refuted reports circulating on Facebook that Patriotic Front Kabwe Central Parliamentary candidate Tutwa Ngulube has been beaten by residents in the area for allegedly tempering with ballot papers at the Civic Centre.
Katanga stated Zambia Police officers have been deployed in different polling stations to ensure that all ballot papers are secured.
“Like I have just explained, what we recorded were just spontaneous clashes by members of the UPND and PF. Nothing happened at the Civic Centre. We have not seen or heard an incidence of tempering with ballot papers. No! All the ballot papers are protected. All ballot papers and secured wherever they are and our police officers that have been deployed in polling stations will ensure that the ballot papers are secured. So people should be rest assured that our police officers are equal to the task,” said Katanga.
