LEICESTER City coach Enzo Maresca hopes Patson Daka continues being a key factor for the English Championship leaders in their Premiership promotion race.
On Saturday, the Chipolopolo striker started for Leicester in a match he played for 72 minutes and scored his 7th goal of the season when he converted an 11th minute penalty in Leicester’s 2-1 away win over mid-table side Watford.
Maresca told Leicester City FC media in an interview that Daka had exhibited a lot of hunger since playing opportunities started coming his way in December, 2023.
“I really like a player like him; he can link well in attack. The more he links, the more he can attack in behind,” Maresca said.
“He is quick and strong; hopefully he can help us more before the end of the season.”
Maresca’s comments come after an uncertain future for Daka at Leicester in the first half of the season in which he played just one league game as a substitute before his change in fortunes in December.
Daka’s exploits at the end of 2023 did not go unnoticed and in January picked the Professional Football Association Championship Player for December.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s goal came a week after he scored a brace, that included another penalty, in Leicester’s 5-0 away victory over Stoke.
“Today (against Watford), he showed the way he works the ball. It was very good. I am happy for him,” Maresca said.
Leicester enjoy a nine-point lead on 75 points with 15 matches left to play as they push for a quick return to the English Premiership following the EPL demotion last season.
