The government has take issue with Choma Tabloid for referring to Information and Media minister Cornelius Mweetwa as a cadre.
In a statement, Southern Province principal public relations officer Wisdom Himanteka stated that it was improper to refer Mweetwa as a cadre as he welcome President Hakainde Hichilema to the area in his capacity as member of parliament for Choma.
Himanteka described as unprofessional and unethical reporting by Choma Tabloid over the reference.
He stated that the publication misleadingly referred to Mweetwa as a “cadre” while reporting on President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit to Harmony Farm in Choma.
Himanteka stated that Mweetwa was a duly elected member of parliament and cabinet minister, and that there was nothing improper about him welcoming the President in his official capacity.
He described the language used as demeaning and inconsistent with accepted journalistic standards, adding that such reporting reflected partisan rhetoric rather than responsible journalism.
Himanteka urged Choma Tabloid to undertake media ethics and professional refresher training.
