ARREST AKAFUMBA, LEVY NGOMA AND PERSON WHO RECORDED THEIR CALL … focus must be on whether the law has been broken, says Sangwa

By Patson Chilemba

State Counsel John Sangwa says the focus over the leaked audio must not be about what the President is saying, but whether the law has been broken by the act of recording a telephone conversation, including arresting Josephs Akafumba and Levy Ngoma over what they were purportedly discussing in the phone call.

Speaking with Daily Revelation over the leaked audio where Political advisor to the President Ngoma and permanent secretary for Home Affairs and Internal Security Akafumba were purportedly conspiring against the Democratic Party (DP)’s filing of nominations for the Kabwata seat, and calls for stakeholders for the President to speak on the matter rather than remaining silent, Sangwa said the focus must be on whether criminality was committed by the very act of recording a conversation, and what was being discussed in the phone call.

“There are a number of issues. There is the actual actual act of recording. Was it lawful? If not, whoever did that must be prosecuted…then the issue Levy Ngoma and Akafumba were talking about, was it lawful? If not, they should be arrested,” Sangwa said, adding that no one was above the law

He said what killed the PF was the extent of lawlessness they engaged in, insisting that the country needed to strengthen state institutions to run professionally.
