SABOI URGES MUTINTA TO START OWN CHARITY

By Isaac Zulu

National Democratic Congress leader Saboi Imboela has urged First Lady Mutinta Hichilema to establish a charity of her own.

In an interview, Imboela pointed out that all the former First Ladies in Zambia have had some charitable organisations of their own, and wondered why Mutinta is not following suit.

She said that all the  First Ladies in Africa have some charity organisations of their own that contribute towards addressing the welfare of people in communities.

Imboela stressed that it is high time the office of the First Lady became functional.

“When I raise this issue they say that she is not going to establish a charity of her own, but would instead join the existing charitable organisations. But the trend has always been that the First Lady should form a charitable organization of their own and contribute to the welfare of people in society,” Imboela. “In fact, all the First Ladies in Africa have some charitable organisations. And they will be meeting in April, and our First Lady has no option, but to follow suit. The office of the First Lady should be made functional because it has not been functional for a long time. First Lady Mutinta Hichilema is no longer a private person, she is now in the public domain.”

She also said that the people mandated to operationalize the office of the First Lady are not helping her.

“Those individuals working in the office of the First Lady are a let down. They are not helping her,” said Imboela.
