Ex-Power Dynamos striker Mwape Miti does not believe history will repeat itself to lose against Tanzanian side Simba SC in the CAF Champions League after experiencing a similar situation against them in the 1995 edition of the same competition.
The former Chipolopolo and Danish club OB Odense attacker was part of the 1995 Power side that was eliminated by Simba in the CAF Champions League first round after losing 4-3 post-match penalties following similar 1-1 home and away draws.
Power and Simba are locked at 2-2 heading into tomorrow’s pre-group stage, final leg decider in Dar es Salaam.
Miti said in an interview in Kitwe that everyone was familiar with Simba’s mind games and hopes the two days Power will spend there after leaving for Tanzania on Thursday before the October 1 game will suffice.
“We played against Simba in 1995 at Power and the game ended 1-1 and then we went to Simba and that game went into extra-time after finishing 1-1 and it was decided on penalties that we lost,” Miti said.
“We have chances of winning because we have shown that we are capable of scoring in every game that we have played so far in this year’s continental matches.
“I am confident that we shall even score there in Tanzania. But they should also quickly adjust to the weather there because it is very humid. They should also know what to expect in Dar es Salaam. They should be prepared psychologically for anything.
“I think they know exactly what to expect. It is common knowledge when teams go to Simba what the hostile experience is like.
“Power should be very mindful that it is not their home ground in Ndeke where they have gone but that they are in Tanzania.”
Meanwhile, Simba has won its last two of four meetings against Zambian opposition in the preliminary knockout phase of continental competition.
Red Arrows were ejected from pregroup stage of the 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup while Nkana suffered the same fate in the 2018/2019 CAF Champions League.
Before that, Simba were eliminated by Nkana and Zanaco in the knockout rounds of the 2002 and 2004 editions of the CAF Champions League respectively.
