TAZARA management has embarked on a staff head count ahead of the impending concessioning of TAZARA.
According to an internal memo addressed to all TAZARA employees and heads of government departments, the railway company has commenced a physical verification of staff, starting from Dar es-Salaam.
The memo issued by TAZARA head of human resource John Mwakyembe, stated that the process is aimed at conducting a staff head count in all departments in the railway company.
And sources within TAZARA management have disclosed that the rationale behind the head count is to ensure that only the right people with the right qualifications remain in their positions before the concessioning of TAZARA.
“This exercise is part of the process leading to the concessioning of TAZARA. It is aimed at ensuring that only the right people with the right qualifications remain in the right positions in all departments. It is an indirect way of reducing the workforce in TAZARA. There will be job cuts. Job losses are coming ahead of the concessioning of TAZARA,” said the source, on condition of anonymity.
