ANGLICAN CHURCH IN CENTRAL AFRICA CHOOSES ORDER OF NATURE AGAINST MOTHER CHURCH’S HOMOSEXUAL ENDORSEMENT

The Central Africa Anglican Church says the decision made by the Church of England to bless homosexual unions is non-binding and will not be effectualised here.

Giving an official position following the endorsement of homosexual unions by the Church of England, the Archbishop of the Church of Central Africa Reverend Albert Chama differed with the position taken by the mother Church in England, stating that the only recognised marriage is that involving a man and woman, in keeping with the will of God and the order of nature.

The Church of England on February 9, 2023 voted in favour of a motion to offer blessings to same-sex couples in civil partnerships and marriages. The approval allowed gays to go to the Church of England churches after a legal marriage ceremony for services including prayers of dedication, thanksgiving and blessing.

Bishop Chama noted that the decision had undoubtedly raised eyebrows and consternation within and outside the Anglican Communion.

“We are aware that the decision made on 9th February was of the Church of England, by the Church of England and for the Church of England,” the Bishop stated. “This decision is not binding on the Church of the Province Central Africa or any constituent member Church in the Communion in any way.”
He acknowledged that the impact of the English Church’s decision cannot be downplayed.

“The Church of the Province of Central Africa therefore reaffirms her belief in the orthodox teaching that marriage is between a man and a woman. This is biblical and it is enshrined in our Constitution and Canons. We call upon our clergy and lay faithful to prayer so that we may continue to discern God’s plan of salvation for humankind,” Bishop Chama stated, and quoted the advent that God caused the holy Scriptures to be written for peoples learning and therefore God must teach them to read and inwardly digest them.
