President Hakainde Hichilema has urged his supporters not to drink chibuku on August 12, so that they can wake up sober the following day to go and cast their votes early the following day.
Addressing a rally in Katete yesterday, President Hichilema told his supporters, “don’t drink chibuku on 12th August.”
He added that they station themselves near the polling stations and carry along the others to go and vote for him and the UPND candidates.
He told rally goers that the whole country had decided to vote for him because of the development they had seen under the UPND in the last four years.
“So if the nine provinces have said yes, you the people of Eastern Province must not remain behind,” President Hichilema said.
He said under the PF reign, children never used to learn as they used to just sit in their homes because their parents had no money to pay for their fees.
He said under PF there was total chaos in markets and bus stations, but all that ended with UPND.
He said those who voted for him would be voting for cash for work to continue, which he said had been increased to K1000.
President Hichilema said for the Social Cash Transfer those who were not on the list would be included.
President Hichilema said the government would continue building schools and clinics and that was why he needed their votes.
He said he wanted to employ more soldiers, nurses and teachers.
President Hichilema said all the volunteer nurses were guaranteed jobs.
“They are lucky, please give them a hand,” President Hichilema said.
He said a total of 1 million jobs had been created in various sectors under his administration with more spillover benefits as those who were employed would in return render their help to others.
He accused NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile, his running mate Makebi Zulu and former Home Affairs minister Stephen Kampyongo as having been leaders of those who were beating and harassing people in markets.
He said those who wanted to voted for them would in short be sending a message that they wanted pangas to be back and violence in the markets.
He urged people to vote as one Zambia one people on August 13.
“Why didn’t you bring free education when you were in government?” President Hichilema challenged Mundubile.
He also questioned why they never increased the CDF during their time in power.
He said they borrowed a lot of money which they failed to sort out but he had managed to sort out the mess, asking who was the better between the two.
President Hichilema said there would be a fully fledged district hospital built in the area.

In apparent reference to Mundubile and Zulu, President Hichilema said they did not even have a garden of tomatoes in their backyard.
And PF faction leader Miles Sampa accused those in the opposition of having accused President Hichilema over late former president Edgar Lungu’s remains yet it’s been a month now since the courts granted them their wish, yet Lungu remained unburied.
“Simaloza ayo (Isn’t that taboo). Teach them a lesson so that they should never repeat playing with death,” said Sampa.
