UPND deputy secretary general Gertrude lmenda says President Hakainde Hichilema has been sent by God to come and turn around the country’s economy.
And Imenda told Daily Revelation that despite the unfortunate situation where the President was stoned, forcing him to abondon his address to the people of Chiwempala, the UPND was still very popular.
In an interview with Daily Revelation, Imenda was asked what the incident entails in relation to the popularity of the party. In response she said, “the UPND is still very popular. We went to meet our members … the UPND, especially our President is very popular.”
She said many people turned up to show solidarity at the said meeting and that this was a sign that the party had not lost popularity.
Imenda explained that from the information she had so far, some junkies climbed the rooftop of one of the shops and when asked by the security to get down, they started throwing stones.
She however said, she will wait for the investigations to be concluded before commenting further.
Imenda insisted the the people that went to the meeting were not the ones that stoned the President.
“It was not the people, the people really wanted to hear the message, but because of that…when the stones started coming into the ground, people scampered and that’s when we said no for security reasons, let the President abondon his address,” Imenda said.
Asked on how people on the Copperbelt perceived the UPND government and it’s performance in the last four years, Imenda said people appreciated the performance of the UPND.
She said President Hichilema had been sent by God to turn around the economy of the country.
“If you heard the preaching, it was very good. They are praising President Hakainde Hichilema for what he has done and so on. They are very appreciative, they believe President HH is God sent and even me I have always believed that President HH has been sent by God to come and turn around this economy and the signs are everywhere to see that the economy is performing and he is destined for greatness and prosperity,” said Imenda.
