Former president Edgar Lungu had told President Hakainde Hichilema that he has had enough of his mischief of wanting to kill the PF and urged him to stop, warning that that the PF was ready to go to every length to protect the party.
And Kamfinsa member of Parliament Christopher Kang’ombe said the PF will give themselves justice should the courts fail to do so.
Addressing the media, president Lungu said for the first time all the arms of government, the executive, judiciary and the legislature were hands and glove with each other in discharging mischief, without any regard for providing checks and balances.
He said the police too has endorsed illegality against their mandate of keeping law and order, but that it was not possible to subvert the will of the people.
He said they had conspired to replace legitimate officer holders in PF with their own stooges in an effort to kill democracy in the country.
But Lungu urged PF members to remain calm as the party navigates troubled waters, saying they shall fight the battle using all legal, political and civil means and that “beyond that, I don’t know.”
“I am ready for anything, including risking my own life at the hands of these desperate people who are aware that they have completely lost public support and confidence due to the many unfulfilled promises,” Lungu said, adding that he was aware that the next move was to remove his immunity from prosecution but that this too does not worry him as it was another of “their” ploy to divert public attention owing to UPND failures.
He said while President Hichilema assured the nation that people will not be detained beyond the stipulated time, that was not happening like the many other promises from the UPND administration, saying they act contrary to what they say.
“How ridiculous the utterances from the leader of UPND when he says I believe in the rule of law?” Lungu wondered, asserting that institutions of governance were compromised. “Enough of this mischief. Stop it Mr Hakainde Hichilema. We know you are behind it.”
And Kang’ombe, who is PF national chairman said he was sure that the youths have heeded Lungu’s message, adding that if justice could not be provided by the courts of law, “we will give ourselves justice.”
“I want to repeat, abakumafunde ku court ngatabatupele justice, if they don’t allow justice to prevail we will give ourselves justice. Nshilelufyanya mukulanda (I am not mistaken in what I am saying),” said Kang’ombe, and that there were those who thought that people could not protect their democracy.
He said the failure to perform by the UPND and people talking about bringing PF back is what was causing the ruling party to resort to such measures against the PF.
