I’ll NOT BE SURPRISED IF I’M NEXT AFTER KAMBWILI – GBM … it wasn’t an issue when we used same words against our people

By Patson Chilemba

Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba says he will not be surprised if he is targeted over the same charges that have been leveled on Chishimba Kambwili bordering on hate speech.

And Mwamba who arrived back in the country today from South Africa, said it is only those who are “malicious, stupid and foolish” who think that he can run away from this country and become a refugee somewhere.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Mwamba who is already facing court charges on other matters, said he would not be surprised if he were lumped with more charges, including those his PF colleague Kambwili has been charged with.

“I wouldn’t be surprised. They shouldn’t forget that when we were in UPND we used the same words against our own people,” Mwamba said, and that he did not believe that what Kambwili has been charged with amounted to hate speech.

He said he had made it clear even himself that he envied the manner the people of Southern Province voted, and therefore there it was not a crime to tell people anywhere to vote for Edgar Lungu and not Hakainde Hichilema.

He said justice must be fairly executed in the country.

And Mwamba said he viewed those who doubted that he would not come back
when he left the country for South Africa as not thinking properly, wondering why anyone should anyone could even contemplate thoughts of him being a refugee elsewhere.

He said he did not become a refugee when PF was in power and when he served as vice-president of the main opposition UPND at the time, saying only those who are “malicious, stupid and foolish” could entertain thoughts that he could run away from this country.

Mwamba said he loved this country and no matter what would happen to him he would still remain here.

He said the UPND was only targeting people they thought had influence like himself, Kambwili and Given Lubinda, but argued that people were becoming sympathetic towards them as they did not want to see a sitting president “persecuting” other citizens.

“HH became popular because PF mistreated him,” said Mwamba.
